love triumphs over all
It’s a sad day to be a North Carolinian.  Amendment One, a terribly prejudiced, manipulative and ridiculously discriminatory piece of legislation, won the popular vote yesterday, once again demonstrating the intense prejudice that still exists in the southern United States.  It is so discouraging and disheartening but, as Patrick said, it is not the end of this fight.  The fight for equality will continue, no matter how long and brutal and heartbreaking it may be, until these archaic laws are reversed, overturned, and otherwise smeared with the putrid smell of bullshit that accompanies all events and modes of thinking that rest eternally on the wrong side of history.
Love, true love, the kind of love that inspires even the worst cynic (yours truly) will prevail.  Keep fighting, keep loving.

garden dog
Tar and I spent the day at Courtney’s garden in Chatham yesterday.  I love taking Tar out there - he can just run forever and do all the things dogs love to do… like chew on shovels.  While Tar went to work on the shovel, we got a lot of good work done in the garden.  I can’t wait to eat some summer veggies!

POTUS!
I got to photograph Obama last week!!  It was a super long day, a perfect example of the photojournalist grind - hurry up and wait - but it was worth it.  The energy in Carmichael was palpable.  It’s kind of a big deal to have a visit by a sitting president.  So glad I got to experience it.

a little bit country
Our campsite at Shakori was super comfortable and cozy thanks to Adam’s pickup truck.  That truck is crucial in a lot of ways.  and you know, nothing says “I love being American” like driving a pickup truck.  but just in case that message isn’t loud and clear enough, Adam put the flag up.  go america.

pretty hippie things
this post is a bit belated.  this is another one of my favorite shots from Shakori (even though I’ve taken hundreds of photos just like this one).  Long exposure settings coupled with a bright hoola hoop and pretty hippie girl - guaranteed good photo.

Carolina Rain
well, it must be spring time.  my blog seems to be full of photos of sexy musicians playing bluegrass music.  Deep Chatham played at the Shakori Hills music festival this past weekend and they killed it.  It started raining in the middle of their set but they just kept playing and everyone else just kept dancing.  They sold hundreds of dollars worth of CDs and definitely acquired some new fans.  I’m real proud of these boys.  They’ve come a long way just in the short time that I’ve had the pleasure of knowing them.

I love when this happens
Look at Matt’s fingers!  So ridiculous, I love the random funky shit that comes out of a delayed exposure.  Deep Chatham played a great show at the Station last night, can’t wait to see them on the Grove Stage at Shakori this weekend!!

Oh Owen.
Another one of my favorite musicians to photograph, Owen Fitzgerald.  Fantastic to see him perform at the Station last night.  After his show we were sitting cross-legged on the floor together and he said, “I know I haven’t seen you much lately Marley but I want you to know I’ve been thinking about you.”  I appreciate that homie, much love.

Love this man and his music.
Oh Seth, one of my all-time very favorite people to photograph.  I enjoyed listening to him play with the Sinful Savage Tigers at the Ackland Art Museum last night.  Bluegrass is the best, especially in the spring time.

pit bulls are the best
Well, I’ve been talking about it for a long time (and thinking about it for an even longer time) and I finally did the damn thing - got myself a dog.  A beautiful young, male pit bull named Tar.  I rescued him from the Wake County Animal Shelter (sad, sad place - there are SO many animals that need homes there).  I have no idea what Tar has been through in his young life but he’s treating me (and my house) very well so far.  I adore him.
